The Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos is located in a rural area and it was created in the
school year 1978/1979 and its designation has been updated over the years. The educational mission of our school includes the development of values related to citizenship, mutual aid, cooperation and the promotion of a culture of work . The educational action of the school focuses on the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, both in terms of regular education and training courses (CEF) introduced from 2008/2009. There are also training courses for unprivileged target groups. As for the people, there are a total of 1049 in this school year (students: 841; total number of staff 208). With regard to special education, in 2017/18, 106 pupils were accompanied by four special education technicians, one of wich in parental leave. With regard to the psychology service, the school has a superior technical psychologist who ensures the follow-up of referenced students, as well as school and professional guidance. In the last decade the school has developed different projects and courses with teachers that have a profile for the implementation and adaptation of differentiated practices in the classroom context. Also worthy of note is the school's organizational capacity to respond to the full integration of pupils whose parents have been emigrated for several years, mainly in Venezuela, through the provision of individualized Portuguese language support and through the application of differentiated strategies by the teachers of the different subjects regarding the difficulties evidenced by the student in the mother tongue. The full integration of students with special educational needs has been another of the school's goals. This project is also designed to strengthen the inclusive position of those unprivilieged and SEN target groups which are mentioned above.
The school has developed projects under Erasmus + (Key Action 1 and Key Action 2). The exchanges, which are still underway
in the framework of a Key Action Project 2, have already enabled the community partners to acquire some fundamental
knowledge and strategies to overcome many difficulties that the school faces. .
Our school is fully aware that preparing students for an out-of-school future should be one of the main goals to be achieved by our educational practice. As we mentioned earlier, we have already developed several projects in this area. This is one of the most focused themes in our educational project and in this sense, we have already developed several projects in this area. For the foregoing, we are convinced that some of our knowledge and some of our experience in the field may, together with the community partners, contribute to the enrichment of the project to be carried out. In case the coordinators leave the post, director Antonio Manuel Barros Mendonca will take over the role in the project.
