Portugal- Madeira- Camara de Lobos, 21.-26.3.2022.
Another trip, another unforgettable adventure, full of events in beautiful Madeira. This indescribably beautiful island in the Atlantic Ocean belongs to Portugal. The capital of the island is Funchal, where we were staying. We went on the trip as part of the already known project, Bringing life skills into the classroom, as part of which we also visited Antalya in Turkey.

Madeira

Since we arrived a day early, on Monday morning we headed to the botanical garden Jardim botanico da Madeira. A garden full of green trees, colorful flowers and plants that we have never seen before, and a beautiful view of the city from a great height, filled us with life. As we walked through the garden, we breathed in the fresh air and absorbed the incredible views. Back to the city center we went down on foot, discovering some new parts of the city, until we returned to the hotel.

Tuesday was our first working day, so in the morning we took the bus to Camara de Lobos, where the Portuguese met us at the school. We met students and teachers from other schools that are part of the project, played Kahoot and toured the school. We went to the Viola restaurant for lunch, and then we headed to the town hall of Camara de Lobos. After visiting the town hall, we looked around this beautiful little town. Before returning to the hotel, we also visited the viewpoint "Cabo Girao", from where there was an incredible view.

On Wednesday, we spent almost the whole day at school, in a working atmosphere. In the morning, we learned about financial intelligence and answered questions related to what we learned. Lunch was organized for us in the school canteen, after which we played the Portuguese game "Minipoli". We returned to the hotel around 5 o'clock, after which we could enjoy our free time.

On Thursday, our classes were organized outdoors, so we had breakfast and headed to Canical. There we visited the whale museum, where we could learn a lot about whaling on the island, which lasted until 1981. In the museum, we saw films about this topic, and we got all the information through an electronic guide. When we were all done browsing the museum, we went to Ponta de Sao Lourenco, the farthest part of the island. Climbing the rocks, we thought the wind would blow us off them, but it was all worth it for the view that lay before us. Next, according to the plan, was a visit to the traditional "Santana" houses, and lunch at the "Faisca" restaurant, which were located high in the mountains. We went for a walk in the forest, and we enjoyed it despite the rain and a lot of mud. We experienced beautiful small waterfalls and wonderful scenes. The last destination before returning to the hotel was the third highest peak of the island, "Pico do Arieiro", which is located at an altitude of 1,818 meters, where we were even surprised by snow.

Friday was our last working day, and also our last day on the island of Madeira. We started the day at school, making piggy banks out of plastic bottles, followed by lunch and the distribution of certificates. In the afternoon we visited the tropical garden "Monte palace", which we went up to by cable car. The tropical garden enchanted us all with its beauty, just like the cable car ride above the city. We had some time to rest at the hotel, before we had to go to the farewell dinner, near the hotel. We enjoyed great food and great company, until we returned to the hotel to rest for the journey.
